Frequently Asked Questions

Has Dutch Elm Disease (DED) made it to Utah?

Yes, we are already seeing cases of trees infected in Utah.

Why should I care about Elm Trees?

Trees are one of the most important aspects to our quality of life. They provide oxygen, decrease temperatures in the summer and help increase your property value.

If we don’t do something now we may lose all of the Elm Trees in Utah.

Can I keep my Elm tree if its not infected yet?

Yes, if you want to prevent your Elm trees from being infected by DED. Then you must proactively treat your Elm trees before they get infected. We recommend contacting a preferred licensed tree specialist.

What our my options if my Elm tree can’t be treated.

If you can’t treat your Elm tree, we recommend that you contact a preferred licensed arborist to prune and remove the infected section or remove the infected Elm Tree and dispose of it correctly so that you minimize the effect on your other Elm trees.

Is the Elm tree still a good choice for future trees in my yard?

No, we don’t recommend the planting of Elm trees. There are a variety of other tree species that you can plant in your yard that can’t be infected by DED.
